Both Lorch and Lepasa are considered key components of the Pirates side but have not been able to impact this season due to injury.

Lepasa has been out injured for almost a year

Striker Lepasa has had to endure a tough period which has seen him spend a year on the sidelines due to injury. The forward who made his name during a loan spell with then GladAfrica Championship side TS Galaxy, was beginning to earn the trust of former Pirates coach Jozef Zinnbauer before the German parted ways with the Buccaneers amicably.

Unfortunately for Lepasa, a fractured ankle injury which he suffered against Chippa United in a 1-0 win in December, has robbed the South African junior international from kicking on this season and impressing the the current Pirates coaching duo of Mandla Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids.

Lepasa also had to deal with rumours that he was retiring from the sport due to his injury, and came out quickly to quash any such talk, in both a written statement on his official social media platforms as well as on Radio.

Lorch has been in the spotlight due a shoulder injury

Another Pirates player who has been embroiled with off-field controversy while enduring a lengthy spell on the sidelines is Lorch. A stalwart of the Buccaneers ship, Lorch is currently sidelined due to an innocuous shoulder injury which has also robbed the Bafana Bafana international of being an option to Ncikazi and Davids.

There has now finally been a positive update on the injury fronts of both Lepasa and Lorch, with even an update on a possible Soweto derby return for Pirates discussed.

Source confirms fitness update

“They have not really targeted the game as their return but it could be because they are close to being fully fit. They have been training with the senior team sparingly over the past few weeks and should be fully involved by the time the derby plays,” said a source speaking to The Citizen.
