Gauteng rolls out ‘come to you’ COVID vaccinations for businesses

With less than 25% of South African adults fully vaccinated, there is still a lot of work to do in terms of rolling out COVID vaccinations. Just over 50 000 jabs were administered in the last 24 hours. As the demand for vaccines begins to slow, the Gauteng Department of Health is launching a new plan to get vaccines into workplaces.

Instead of trying to get people to come to the vaccine sites, the vaccine site will now come to where you work.

COVID Vaccinations: Jabs that come to your office

The Department says that its workplace pop-up vaccination sites plan allows employers and any organisation the ability to assist their workers in getting vaccinated.

All they need to do is get in touch with the provincial government. And have at least 50 employees that haven’t been vaccinated yet.

“Now employers and any organisation that want to assist their employees to get the jab can forward their requests directly to the vaccination team to have a pop-up or mobile site set up at their offices. Companies can forward their requests to [email protected] or call the Gauteng Hotline on: 0800 22 8827.

Gauteng Department of Health Spokesperson Kwara Kekana

In the same statement revealing the work-jab program, Kekana also stressed that COVOOD vaccinations will be key in getting life ‘back to normal.” Getting the economy thriving, going to concerts, and attending live sports events? That will need the majority of the country to be vaccinated.

In total, over 19 million vaccines have been administered across the country. But only 9 million adults are fully vaccinated.
