Veteran actor Dr Jerry Mofokeng wa Makhetha recently opened up about his brutally honest memoir, I Am A Man with Drum Magazine.
The actor who recently revealed he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in October 2019 told the publication that he had to have tough conversations with himself and his family before writing his memoir.
“This book was also very important to me because I share very intimate parts of my life, and this goes to show that we are all human and we all go through tough situations.”
He also talks about his son who’s been addicted to drugs for 15 years and how challenging it has been for him as a parent.
Makhetha also states that he had to consult his family members before mentioning them in the book.
“It was not an easy conversation to have, but they said as long I was not lying about them, then it was fine.”
“Some of them have not read the book yet.”
He also states that his daughter who proofread the memoir said she thought she knew him, but reading the book made her realise that she did not know him as well as she thought.
WHY MEN SHOULD READ THE BOOK
The book was prompted by his journey of self-discovery and getting to know his identity which gave rise to the wa Makhetha in his name which was not always there.
He wants men who read the book to introspect and restore their manhood because not all males are men.
“When you look at how many people are raised by single mothers, yet their fathers are alive, it’s shocking.”
“There are so many people out there with unresolved daddy issues.”
Makhetha’s book will be launched on 21 October and is currently available for pre-orders.
