Rams vs. Buccaneers final score, results: Matt Gay walk-off field goal advances Rams to NFC Championship

With the third walk-off field goal and underdog win in the 2022 NFL playoffs, the Rams will advance to the NFC championship game.

Los Angeles earned a 30-27 win in the divisional game with a walk-off field goal from Matt Gay in the final seconds of the matchup. Quarterback Matt Stafford connected with wide receiver Cooper Kupp on a pass for 44 yards to position the Rams in the red zone and execute the victory.

Stafford completed 28 of 38 passes for 366 yards with two touchdowns and scored a rushing touchdown in the third quarter. He also connected with leading wide receiver Kupp on nine receptions for 183 yards and a touchdown. Running back Cam Akers led Los Angeles 24 carries for 48 rushing yards, however, he also led the team with two fumbles. The Rams lost all four fumbles and only recovered one from the Buccaneers at the end of the third quarter.

Akers lost his first fumble in the Tampa Bay red zone within the final 30 seconds of the first half. The turnover cost the Rams a critical scoring chance that could’ve extended their lead before the half. Kupp also fumbled at the end of the third quarter and the Buccaneers capitalized with a touchdown to cut the deficit 27-13. During the final three minutes of the game, defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh knocked the ball loose from Akers and allowed the Buccaneers to capitalize with another touchdown and tie the game 27-27.

On the other hand, the Buccaneers came close to finishing off a comeback win. Quarterback Tom Brady completed 30 of 54 passes for 329 yards with a touchdown and an interception. A few plays before Akers fumble in the second quarter, Brady threw an interception that gave the Rams possession at the Tampa Bay 31. Wide receiver Mike Evans led the Buccaneers with eight catches for 119 yards and a touchdown while running back Leonard Fournette led on the ground with 13 carries for 51 yards and two scores.

The win at Raymond James Stadium allows the Rams to advance to the NFC championship game against the 49ers, after they earned a 13-10 win against the Packers in the divisional game on Saturday night. The Rams will return to Los Angeles to host San Francisco in the NFC championship game next week at SoFi Stadium.
